The Chicago Tribune has just released these old photographs of Al Capone taken during his trial for tax evasion in 1931. (click the title for the link)

I love old photographs like this. They give you a glimpse back into a world long gone. I love looking at the people's expressions and wondering who they were. I also love looking into the back of the photos at the onlookers for whom this photograph was just 1/100th second of their day, 80 years ago. For some, it is perhaps the only visual record of their faces and there may be nobody alive who knows who they are.
